The Future of Solar Power Energy In The Home

Posted in: Solar Outdoor Lighting | May 24, 2016
We know the sun is powerful, but what if we could harness that energy and put it to good use? What if we could generate enough energy to power a home?
We all know electricity has been the primary source of power for a while now, but there’s a new energy source making its way to homes across America. Solar energy is proving to be a reliable source of renewable energy for both residential and commercial use, and the future of solar power is looking bright.
According to the Solar Energy Industries Association, in the first half of 2015, the solar industry supplied 40 percent of new 2015 electric generating capacity, and the association also reports that with over 135,000 installations in the first half of 2015, nearly 784,000 U.S. homes and businesses have now gone solar. That number continues to grow as people understand the benefits of solar power.
As a renewable resource, solar power is eco-friendly and helpful in reducing carbon emissions. It’s also cost effective because it has the potential to lower or eliminate costly electric bills. And, with improved technology, there is greater potential for the widespread use of solar power.
As of March 2015, www.energyinformative.org estimated that a residential solar system on a typical home would cost $15,000 – $40,000, depending on the size and scope of the project. The organization estimates that over time, the installation could save the homeowner more than $25,000.
While many Americans may not be ready to power their homes solely with solar energy, there are some small yet practical ways to start using solar energy today.
Heat your home – A room with windows or a sunroom not only provides a bright and cheery respite, and with the heat from the sun, it can be warm and inviting.
Heat water – Looking for an alternative way to heat water without heating up your house? Fill a clean container with water and leave in the sun for a few hours.
Indoor lighting/LED lights – LED lights are very versatile and powered by sunlight during the day and by battery at night.
Outdoor lighting – Solar lights are functional, fashionable and eco-friendly. More importantly, they are powered by sunlight during the day to illuminate your outdoor areas from dusk ‘till dawn.
