What is Gama Sonic’s Morph Technology?

Posted in: | July 9, 2021

If you are at all familiar with solar lighting, then like us, you know how effective it is at reducing energy costs both for you and the environment. In order for more people to learn about and choose solar lights instead of their far less sustainable counterparts, we are constantly innovating and creating the best possible outdoor solar lighting solutions. That’s where the new Morph Technology comes in.

You may have noticed that some of our lights now come with this technology, which sounds exciting, but you may have wondered what this really means–how does it work, and how will it help you? Read on as we answer these questions and more.

The Process

First, what is the process that distinguishes Morph Technology from the standard solar panel technology? Morph Technology involves infusing monocrystalline photovoltaic cells (silicon solar cells that make up a solar panel) directly into the lighting fixture itself. Instead of having a flat solar panel that must inhabit an even, flat surface, this technology makes it so any surface on a solar light can become part of the solar panel.

Following the Curve

You may have seen solar farms–huge fields filled with enormous solar panels, their size making them capable of converting as much sunlight into energy as possible. Outdoor solar lights made for personal or commercial use must hold much smaller versions. This necessitates making sure that the solar panel is placed in the best position to receive the most light, making the most of surface area, while maintaining the proper aesthetic for the lamp. Because a light fixture will likely have curves and edges that a typical panel cannot follow, the solar panel has to fit within whatever flat surface exists, which limits surface area and therefore the amount of power the solar light can generate.

Morph Technology is a fix for this limitation. While traditional solar cells have occupied around 25%-45% of space on a Gama Sonic light, with Morph the entire surface area is usable space for absorbing sunlight and generating energy. Curves are no longer road bumps.

What This Means for You

Greater surface area means more power and faster battery charge, which adds to enhanced battery power. At the end of the day, what Morph Technology leaves you with is brighter and longer lasting outdoor solar lights, capable of keeping your garden, yard, and beyond welcoming and safe more efficiently than ever before.

If you’re ready to test this out for yourself, there are several outdoor solar lighting options available with this cutting edge technology.

First, there is our Plaza series. The Plaza Solar RLM Light with Adjustable Gooseneck Arm as well as the Plaza Solar Light with 3in Fitter and Wall Mount both contain Morph Technology and are extremely versatile.

Their look is timeless, with curves that are both simple and eye catching. Both are also dusk-to-dawn capable which means they will turn on automatically upon dusk, and if you’re looking for some flexibility in placement possibilities, the Plaza Solar Light can be mounted on a wall or a post. You can learn more about the Plaza Solar Light [here on the blog], as it is this month’s LOM.

Another great option that comes with Morph tech is the Orion Solar Wall Light, dusk-to-dawn capable like the Plaza series, and incredibly easy to install.

This durable fixture, with a GS LED Light Bulb that will serve you for as long as the lamp itself, can illuminate sheds, storage units, porches, and more.

Last but not least, the Topaz Solar Wall Lamp with Wall, Pier, and 3in Fitter Mounts. Angular and striking, while remaining a classic choice, the Topaz can be mounted on a wall, pier, or post.

The black, cast aluminum finish looks great against the backdrop of any garden, yard, or walkway.
